“What I ask them is — why compare their achievements, successes and lifestyles to their idols, when the values their idols have are probably so wildly different from their own?
If you want to be happy about your life, measuring those values and how closely you’re living — that’s the important part.”
Thanks for this takeaway Jon! I have often compared my life and achievements (and the lack of them) to other notables and celebrities and woefully lamented that I am not at their level, or probably will never be at their level. But what you shared above about values and convictions has made me sit up and take a good look at my self-inventory and realise that all this was all wrong as the values and principles may have been all different, so it was an apples vs oranges case.
I cannot say that I will ever stop comparing myself to others, but what you shared in this post has been great food for thought. Thank you again, Jon! I am in your debt.
