Madelaine, the truth about the university degree and what it gets you has also come into stark clarity in my homeland of Singapore. Time was when the degree was rare enough to be valuable but now almost everyone has it and some do not even need an A-level certificate to get it! At least you learn to think critically at uni. That is something the degree course teaches you. But maybe life teaches you more at the polytechnics and vocational courses.
